PRICKLEHEAD BLUE SCARF STORY
Our view of the world changes when we look at it close up and magnified. The complexity of plants and intricacy of flowers are a revelation when you really examine the detail. I have been fascinated by the alien world that emerges ever since I was set a drawing project to take a seed head and magnify it to fill a 6ft sheet of paper, when studying at St Martin’s School of Art. The work of Karl Blossfeldt also perpetuated my approach to design and photography, searching for that magical hidden world.
The spiky burrs in the Pricklehead Blue scarf design were found on the banks of the river near Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. But when magnified they took on a whole new life reminding me of giant thistles found in the Scottish Highlands.
Prickly burrs in wild abundance by the riverbank echo watery shades of blue and green.
An edgy accent for sharp style and cool colours.
